Buddha Air win:

KATHMANDU: Buddha Air defeated Embassy of India (EoI) Security Team 2-0 in the inaugural match of the first Independence Day Football Tournament here at the EoI grounds on Saturday. In all, 14 teams representing media, educational institutions and corporate houses are taking part in the tournament. Earlier, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee inaugurated the event that runs through August 5. — HNS

Budha triumphs:

KATHMANDU: Gorakh Bahadur Budha won the wheel-chair 100 metre race at the 12th Inter-school National Special Sports on Saturday. Other winners were Rakesh Hayaju in 100m (mentally-challenged, 8-11yrs), Sher Bahadur Ale in longjump (visually impaired, above 13), Sushil Thapa (visually impaired, U-12), Bijay Rijal in 200m (hearing impaired, 12-15), Santoshi Dhamala in 100m (mentally-challenged, 8-11), Surya Bahadur Nepali in shotput (physically-challenged, U-16), Sudarshan Chalise in shotput (physically-challenged, U-14), Radha Kumal in longjump (visually impaired, above-13), Dharma Dutta Fadera in 400m (hearing impaired, 12-15yrs), Dipa Basnet in 200m (hearing impaired, 12-15yrs), Santoshi Budhathoki in 400m (hearing impaired, 12-15yrs), Chir Kunwar in highjump (visually impaired, above-13), and Surya Bahadur Nepali in javelin throw (physically-challenged, 16yrs). — HNS

GCA Girls Cricket:

KATHMANDU Greenland Children’s Academy (GCA) is organising the second GCA Inter-school Girls’ Cricket Tournament at the Tundikhel grounds from June 20-27. The participating six teams are divided into two pools. Hosts GCA, Baluwatar Cricket Club and Bhanubhakta Memorial School are in Group A, while the Group B consists of Rajan Memorial School, Gyankunja and Greenland School. — HNS

Footballers’ visit:

BHAKTAPUR: Members of former and current Nepali national football team paid a goodwill visit to the football academy run by the Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA) on Saturday. Players shared their experience with the kids at the academy. National team captain Hari Khadka handed over 18-set jersey to MYA president and former national skipper Upendra Man Singh at a programme organised to honour the national players. — HNS

Fun Cricket:

LALITPUR: IFES/NDI and Tribhuvan University registered wins on the second day matches at the Serious Fun Cricket Tournament at The British School. In the first match, IFES/NDI defeated Nabil Bank by 11 runs. Batting first, IFES/NDI were bowled out for 79 runs in 14.5 overs riding on an unbeaten 22 from Raj Kumar. In reply, Nabil were all out for 68 runs. In the second match, TU (19/1) defeated Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (18 all out) by six wickets. — HNS

Coca Cola Cup:

LALITPUR: Birendra Sainik School and Gitamata School won their matches at the Coca Cola Cup Inter-school Football. Bikram Shrestha scored a hat-trick as Birendra Sainik beat Dipendra Police School 4-1. Gitamata blanked Little Angels’ 3-0. Ramesh Pojddar struck twice and Bijay Sedia added the third. — HNS
