Villagers’ threat

SURKHET: Locals here have warned that they will bar political party leaders from entering villages if they failed to allocate at least Rs 1 million from the DDC budget for the construction of the Masina-Chepang agriculture road. In a press release issued here on Sunday, the agriculture road construction consumers’ committee said it will bar leaders from entering areas in several VDCs. — HNS

Strike at hospital

DHANKUTA: Candidates, who had appeared in the examination for the post of medical assistants, disrupted all but emergency services at Dhankuta hospital on Monday. They alleged irregularities in the exam. The disgruntled group said that the authorities concerned did not pay attention to their demands of scrapping the exam for a new one. — HNS

Campus lock-out

POKHARA: The Tarai Sirjanshil Samiti on Monday locked up the office of the campus chief at the Institute of Engineering, Paschimanchal Campus, Pokhara, for an indefinite period. It alleged that the assistant campus chief was deputed with authority in the presence of the campus chief. A statement by coordinator of the Samiti, Durga Prasad Shah and secretary Ujjwal Mishra said acting dean Babu Raj Bhattarai appointed Surya Prasad Adhikari as acting campus chief while campus chief Abhimanyu Lal Singh was present in the campus. — HNS

Deuba on unification

KATHMANDU: President of the Nepali Congress-Democratic Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday told a programme here that the issue of unification of his party with the Nepali Congress will be clear in the next two days when he will hold a meeting with the Prime Minister and NC President Girija Prasad Koirala. Deuba on Sunday met Koirala and the latter appealed to him to be serious on the unification issue and “come back” with his stance in two days. — HNS

NSP(A) meet on

KATHMANDU: The extended working committee meeting of Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi) is underway at its party office at mid-Baneswor. The meeting, which began on Sunday, will continue on Tuesday, party general secretary Anil Jha said. The central leaders are discussing the party’s policies and programmes in the run up to the constituent assembly elections. They are also discussing the current political situation and the Madesh movement. — HNS

Boy missing in river

RAJBIRAJ: A 10-year-old boy, Kundan Kumar Yadav, of Saptari’s Bhardaha-9 has gone missing after the Koshi river sewpt him away on Sunday evening. Yadav was on the riverside grazing cattle when the incident occurred, a local, Ram Avatar Yadav, said. The rising water level in the river has hampered efforts to find the boy. — HNS
