Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) today provided relief materials worth Rs 1 million to tsunami-hit Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has suffered a huge casualties of more than 25,000 and about 30,000 are still missing. The relief material provided by CNI includes noodles, medicine, wearable, tents and blankets.

Speaking at the programme organised to handover the goods, Prakash Sharan Mahat, state minister for foreign affairs said that support to Sri Lanka would help boost bilateral relation. Sri Lanka — in the crisis — needs humanitarian aid and the support provided by CNI is praiseworthy, he added. He also informed that the government has decided to provide $1 million aid to Sri Lanka. “The aid provided by the government of Nepal and private sector, when Nepal’s itself is facing economic crisis is admirable,” said Grace A Asinwatham, Sri Lankan envoy to Nepal.

Nepal has a close relation with Sri Lanka and supporting the Sri Lankan people is our duty, said Binod Kumar Chaudhary, president of CNI.
