11 hurt in accidents

DANG: Eleven persons were hurt in two separate road mishaps in Dang on Friday. Ten persons were injured when a minibus heading to Ghorahi from Tulsipur met with an accident at Sewarkhola. Three passengers, who were critically injured in the incident, are undergoing treatment at the Ghorahi-based District Hospital, the Dang District Police Office said. In another incident, one Suraj Singh Nepal was injured when a minibus en route Tulsipur from Ghorahi met with an accident on Friday, police said, adding Nepal has been undergoing treatment in Tulsipur. — HNS

Bootleg alcohol seized

KATHMANDU: Police team from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, on Thursday seized 419 bottles of alcohol that was made secretly and sold illegally. According to DSP Bikash Khanal at the Circle, the bootleg alcohol was seized from rented rooms of Muktinath Mainali, 24, and Keshav Bhetwal, 27, of Nuwakot. The duo were found storing the alcohol in a house owned by Gyan Lal Shreshta at Dhapasi. “During an initial investigation, they confessed being involved in the business,” Khanal said. — HNS

KP Oli ill

NEW DELHI: A leader of the CPN-UML and former deputy prime minister KP Sharma Oli has been admitted to Apollo Hospital here for treatment of stomach ulcer. Sources at the CPN-UML said the former deputy prime minister was admitted earlier in the week to the hospital. A few weeks ago, Oli had received a kidney transplant at the same hospital. Meanwhile, Nepali Congress leader Shailaja Acharya, whose name has been proposed as Nepali ambassador to India, has arrived here to get her mother treated for diabetes and high blood pressure. Acharya’s mother also has been admitted to Apollo Hospital. — HNS

Marijuana seized

SIRAHA: The police confiscated 50 kg of marijuana that was being exported to India from Kabilasi village development committee in Siraha district on Friday morning. The Sukhipur Area Police Office seized the 50 kg of marijuana worth Rs 1.5 lakh, the police said. However, the smugglers, who were on three motorcycles, are absconding, according to the area police office . — HNS

Two killed

GAIGHAT: Hornet bite killed one person at Nometar of Udayapur district on Friday. Dhiraj Tamang, 17, who had gone to cut grass in a jungle, fell unconscious after a hornet bite him. He died while undergoing treatment, a local Norbu Sherpa said, adding that Rudra Tamang, who had gone to cut grass with Dhiraj, was also bitten. He has been undergoing treatment in a local health centre. Meanwhile, snakebite killed one Pramita Rai, 13 of Triyuga-8 on Thursday night. Rai, who was admitted to district hospital, died in course of treatment, a local, Bapudev Bahadur Rai, said. — HNS

Girl faints

BARA: A girl Ranju Kumari Yadav, 15, of Gajabhawanipur-4 fainted hearing the sound of a bomb explosion on Thursday night. Yadav regained consciousness in the course of treatment at the Kalaiya hospital, the Bara District Police Office said. Of the three socket bombs planted by an unknown gang at Gajabhawanipur-4, two of them exploded, the police said. Bara chapter of the JTMM-G has owned up the incident by making phone call to journalists. Meanwhile, chairman of the Child Protection Nepal, Brij Mohan Kusbaha, condemned the incident. — HNS

Three Indians held

BIRGUNJ: The Parsa district police office has detained three Indians for being involved in transactions of stolen vehicles on Friday. Jamir Khan, Satyendra Kumar Thakur and Jaya Kumar Mahato from Bihar were held near the Birgunj customs on the charge of stealing vehicles from India. One of them is suspected to have a hand in the murder of a businessman from Bara, Munna Gupta. — HNS

Lightning kills one

CHARIKOT: Lightning killed one person at Lakuridanda-9 on Thursday night. Police identified the dead as Samjhana Moktan, 19, of Kharidhunga of Lakuridanda-9. — HNS

Bus torched

BHADRAPUR: Cadres of the Federal Loktantrik Forum (FLF) torched a bus on Friday in Kerakha of Jhapa on the East-West Highway. Saying that the FLF-called bandh was defied, the forum’s cadres torched the bus heading to Kakarbhitta, injuring six passengers, police said. — RSS

Tusker menace

ITAHARI: Two elephants from the Koshi Tappu Wild Santuary damaged paddy crops planted in Prakashpur, Madhuban, western Kusaha and Shreepur VDC. Elephants damaged paddy crops on land belonging to Kusheswor Mandal, Kapleswor Mandal, Rajender Majhi, Shiv Raj Rawat and Baijanath Mandal. — RSS
