Janakpurdham, October 24:
General secretary of the Nepali Congress Dr Ram Baran Yadav today claimed that double standards of the CPN (Maoist) was to blame for persistent political impasse. Speaking at a press conference organised by the Nepal Press Union Dhanusha in Janakpur, he said that the Maoists’ conduct was against the peace treaty. He called on the Maoists, including cadres of the Young Communist League, to respect democracy. Replying to a query, he said that the regressive forces will benefit if the Maoists do not give an outlet to the present crisis.
The seven-party alliance will last, he said, adding that the parliament is trying to find a common ground with regard to the Maoists’ motion. He said a full proportionate election system will only give rise to a new autocrat. He said the warring parties in the Tarai should come to the negotiating table. Some of their demands should be met after talks and a commitment made to meet the rest of their demands after the constituent assembly polls, Yadav said.
