Nepali, Indian officials agree on border issues

Nepali and Indian officials today discussed outstanding border issues between the two countries and agreed to reinstall the damaged border demarcation pillars, and control border encroachment and crimes along the border.

Officials from both the countries agreed to re-install the missing and damaged border demarcation pillars and remove the human settlement from the ‘10-yard strip’ along the border.

The meeting, held at the brigade base of the Indian Sima Surakshya Bal (SSB) at Bathnaha of Arariya district of India, was attended by security heads and administrative officials of Sunsari, Morang and Jhapa districts of eastern Nepal.

Koshi zonal police chief Birendra Babu Shrestha said the issues of border crimes, smuggling and human trafficking were also discussed during the meeting that lasted for four hours. The 15-member Nepali team was led by Morang chief district officer Madhav Prasad Regmi.
