Lightning kills two

TAPLEJUNG: Two persons were killed when lightning struck at Sabadin VDC of Taplejung on Monday. Maan Bahadur Limbu, 75, of Sabadin VDC-6 and wife of one Indra Limbu from the same place were killed, the DSP at District Police Office, Nawa Raj Bhatta, said. Over 50 houses were damaged by short circuit resulting from the lightning, a local, Hem KC, said. The lightning destroyed two peltric electricity generator sets in VDC. — HNS

Villager shot at

Siraha: Three persons were injured when they retaliated an attack by a group of around 10 armed dacoits at Sarswar VDC in Siraha on Monday night. The injured include Raghu Bir Mandal, 30, his brother Jag Bir, 27, and sister Sunita, 24, police said. Raghu’s condition is reported to be critical. He was injured when the dacoits opened fire at him. He was also hit by shrapnel. Others were injured when dacoits beat them up them.—HNS

Two killed in mishap

NAWALPARASI: Two persons were killed when a tanker loaded with LPG cylinders turned turtle at Daunedanda in Nawalparasi on the Mahendra Highway on Monday night. The driver of the tanker, Dhiraj Singh, 22, of Jammu Kashmir and helper Cylinder Singh, 16, died when the tanker heading towards Kathmandu from Mathura in India, exploded, the Nawalparasi district police office, said. — HNS

1 killed in mishap

RAUTAHAT: A person was killed on the spot when a tractor, which was returning from Shree Ram Sugar Mills after unloading sugarcane, met with an accident near Dharampur VDC of Rautahat district on Tuesday. The driver and the owner of the tractor Gauri Shankar Jaiswal was killed in the accident, the Rautahat District Police office said. — HNS

SAC meeting

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary State Affairs Committee (SAC) on Tuesday continued discussions on the Constituent Assembly Member Election Bill. It discussed the technical difficulties, which have emerged on the issue of the percentage of nominations for the elections to be held as per the proportional representation system. The SAC would meet at 2:00 pm on Wednesday. — HNS

Bizarre SLC candidate

NEPALGUNJ: One Ram Krishna BK, 40, and his daughter-in-law Bimala BK, 17 are appearing in the ongoing SLC examinations at Mangal Prasad Higher Secondary School SLC examination centre. They are taking the SLC examinations as private students, said Man Prasad Regmi, an official at the Banke DEO. — HNS
