Kathmandu, November 7:
The Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Nepal (MJF-N) is organising a “Broader Madhesi National Political Convention” in Kathmandu on November 19 and 20 to form a joint front of all Madhesi factions and parties.
The Bhagyanath Gupta-led MJF-Nepal today said all the Madhesi factions would be compelled to write their own constitution if the government failed to go for a fully proportional electoral system, to give autonomy to the Madhes region with the right to self-determination and to go for a federal republicanism.
Publicising the decision of the secretariat meeting held yesterday, vice-president of the MJF-N, Kishore Biswas, warned of disintegration of the country and threatened to disrupt the constituent assembly elections if their demands were not addressed.
“The parliament must make necessary amendments in the interim constitution on elections and the issue of federal republic to ensure Madhesis’ rights,” Biswas said at a press meet today. He also demanded a new CA poll date and immediate dissolution of the government for failing to hold polls on the stipulated date.
The MJF-N labelled the endorsement of fully-proportional electoral system and federal republic by the parliament as positive, but lamented Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s decision to abstain from voting. “Since Koirala has minority backing in the parliament, he should quit the government,” a statement of the MJF-N said.
The MJF-N has also raised doubts over the attitude of the Nepal Sadbhawana Party (A) for abstaining from voting in the parliament.
The MJF-N said it would organise first conventions with factions waging peaceful movement in Tarai and then with Limbuwan, Khumbuwan and others.
