Trust ordinance tabled

It is official now. The property of the late king Birendra and his family, including the late queen Aishwarya will be run, managed and utilised systematically for the greater interest of the nation.
Considering the urgency to enact a law for making a trust to manage the property of the late king Birendra’s family, the government promulgated the Nepal Trust Ordinance-2007 as per Article 88 of the Interim Constitution 2007.
Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Ram Chandra Poudel, on behalf of Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula, tabled the ordinance in the parliament today with the commitment to utilising the property of the Trust in the greater interest of the country. With the PM as the protector, the management committee of the Trust will include government’s chief secretary as its chairman while secretary at the ministry of home affairs; secretary at the ministry of law, justice and parliamentary affairs; secretary at the finance ministry; secretary at the ministry of women, children and social welfare; four government nominees, including a woman, will be the members of the Trust. An executive secretary will be appointed as the member secretary of the Trust.
The management committee is entitled to look for the property of the late king and his family members both inside and outside the country and keep a record of the same. The office of the Trust will be in Kathmandu and its liaison offices can be opened both inside and outside the country.
The government has also tabled “Arms and Ammunition (second amendment) Ordinance-2007 at the parliament considering an urgent need to promulgate a law to ensure peace, law and order in the country.
