Birgunj, January 14:

A cadre of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha Sadre Alam was injured after police fired at two JTMM cadres riding a motorcycle here today.

Alam, a resident of Jitpur VDC 3 of Bara district, was seriously injured in the police action. Chhotelal Shah who was astride the motorcycle with Alam was taken into custody.

Alam, who sustained three bullet wounds in his left thigh, was referred to Kathmandu by the Narayani zonal hospital.

Police said the two had returned after extorting money from Samiullah of Kaduwa Chainpur in east Champaran of Bihar in India.

The two fell into the Nepal dragnet after a tip-off by Samiullah. The two tried to flee when they found a joint team of the Nepal police and Bihar police blocking their path, said deputy superintendent of police Shaur Bikram Rana.
