LALITPUR: All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) and Women Football Commitee (WFC) are jointly organising the 10th National Women’s Football Tournament in Mahendra Nagar from January 24 to February 5. In all, 24 district teams along with a team from Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) will fight for the championship, said the organisers here at a press meet on Wednesday. Top team from each of the eight groups will advance to the quarter-finals. The estimated budget of the tournament is Rs 1.6 million, said WFC president Kalpana Piya Shrestha. — HNS

Chelsea finalise deal

LONDON: Chelsea finalised a deal to sign Lokomotiv Moscow defender Branislav Ivanovic. The 23-year-old has been granted a work permit and the Serbia centre-back will complete his move to Stamford Bridge once he has negotiated personal terms and passed a medical, according to Premier League club’s website. Lokomotiv wanted around nine million pounds for Ivanovic, who partners Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic in Serbia’s defence. Blues manager Avram Grant targeted Ivanovic after John Terry was sidelined with an ankle injury in December. —AFP

Guyana warn WICB

GEORGETOWN: Guyana on Tuesday threatened to sue the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for more than $1 million in ticket earnings that haven’t been delivered to the lone cricket-playing South American country. “We’re very upset with the West Indies Cricket Board, they have our money and they are not paying us,” Guyana’s President, Bharrat Jagdeo, said. — AFP

Putsilo in Hamburger

HAMBURG: Hamburger SV has signed midfielder Anton Putsilo on loan from Dinamo Minsk of Belarus until the end of the season. The Bundesliga club said on Wednesday it had the option to sign Putsilo on a longer contract. — AP
