Maoists’ Kaski secy killed
KATHMANDU:
Maoists’ Kaski district secretary Biswas alias Bijaya Dhakal was killed by security forces at Sammi Danda on Thursday. Maoist sources accused the forces of killing him after taking him under control. The forces confiscated over Rs 100,000, Maoist documents and two mobile sets from him. — HNS
Rs 1.37m Indian grant
KATHMANDU:
The Indian government has agreed to provide a grant of Rs 1.37 million for the construction of a blood transfusion service centre in Lahan of Siraha, according to the embassy of India. An MoU to this effect was signed on Thursday between the Indian embassy, the Siraha DDC, and the Nepal Red Cross Society. — HNS
Ex-Gurkhas laud UK move
POKHARA:
The Nepal Ex-Gurkhas Army Association has welcomed a statement made by British Defence Secretary Geoffrey Hoon on Tuesday that a a wide-ranging review of the terms and conditions of British Gurkhas’ service will be made. At a press meet on Thursday, association president, Dipak Bahadur Gurung, said the summary of the report will be made public by 2062 BS. — HNS
Drug trafficker fined
BARA:
Bara district court on Thursday slapped a Rs 2,000 fine on Ram Janam Mis-hra of Kalaiya-6 for his involvement in drug trafficking. Bara police had recovered 100g of hemp from his house in September. — HNS
Employees rejoin duty
DHANKUTA:
Employees of local bodies in Dhankuta district, who had earlier resigned, returned to their work from Thursday. The employees had resigned citing threats from the Maoists. — RSS
Donation for varsity
SURKHET:
Donations are pouring in for the construction of the proposed Mid-western University. The Surkhet DDC provided Rs 12.27 million and the 50 VDCs in Surkhet provided Rs 5 million collectively. Similarly, Mid-western Transport Entrepreneurs’ Association handed over Rs 2 million and its working committee Rs 550,000, whereas employees associated with it contributed Rs 56,000. One killed in accident
BIRATNAGAR:
One person was killed and another seriously injured when a motorcycle hit a truck parked on the road side. Motorbike rider Sovit Gupta died while being taken to hospital. — RSS
