Six gangsters in police dragnet

Kathmandu, March 22:

Police have arrested six persons on the charge of involving in more than 100 cases of robberies, extortion and kidnapping that took place in the Valley in the recent months.

Those arrested have been identified as Ramesh Lama (25), Anil Lama (21) and Pemba Lama (27) from Sindhupalchowk; Ashok Waiba (24) from Makawanpur, Sanjib Lama (25) from Bara and Krishna Khadka (26) from Morang.

SSP at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) Upendra Kant Aryal said

the group known as ‘Chinese Group’ was busted three days ago from different

places in the Valley.

The police said the gang was involved in looting Rs 1.3 million cash and a mobile set from Ratna Bahadur Lama of Kavre Contractors’ Association at Tinkune and Rs 56,000 from Prabin Prakash Shrestha at Dhobighat. The gang also extorted Rs 400,000 from Sher Bahadur Shrestha of Sindhupalchowk.

The police have seized Rs 35,500 in cash, five mobile phone sets, foreign currencies, cheques worth Rs 500,000 and a motorcycle from them.

Meanwhile, police rescued 10-year-old Asha Man Tamang who was kidnapped from Bagmati Boarding School, Sukedhara, on February 9, and arrested three persons allegedly involved in the kidnapping.

The arrested are Ramesh Lama, Kham Bahadur Kama and Anil Kumar Tamang.

They were arrested from Dolakha on March 18.

Dawa Tamang, the father of the child, paid Rs 30,000 ransom to the kidnappers, but they did not release the child and instead demanded an additional Rs 80,000. It was then only that Tamang reported the case to the police.
