Kathmandu, March 24:

Protesting the transfer of chief of the Employees’ Administration Division (EAD) Mahesh Prasad Singh to Shanker Dev Campus, the Madheshi Professors’ Society (MAPS) today padlocked the offices of the vice-chancellor (VC), rector and registrar of the Tribhuvan University for an indefinite period. Protesting the transfer, the MAPS also announced an indefinite closure of all campuses based in the Tarai from March 25.

The EAD chief was transferred to the campus on March 16. MAPS submitted a three-day ultimatum to the VC, rector, registrar and political parties to reinstate Singh.

MAPS president Prof Dr Ram Prasad Chaudhary told this daily that they were forced to padlock the offices as the university did not consider their request to reinstate Singh. He claimed that the transfer is also against the agreement signed between the United Democratic Madheshi Front and the government on February 28, which calls for adequate representation of the Madheshis in every sector of the state. Chaudhary added that the transfer of the EAD chief to Shanker Dev Campus, which does not have the position suitable for him, is a kind of humiliation.
