KATHMANDU:
Birgunj custom office was declared first among all custom offices spread across the nation. Janakpur customs office and Siraha customs office stood second and third respectively. Evaluation was based on indices of edited works and targeted achievements. — RSS
New highway proposed
LAMJUNG:
A proposal has been forwarded for the construction of old trekking trail from Lamjung to Kathmandu through Gorkha-Dhading as an alternative route to Kathmandu. The proposed highway has been named as Saptagandaki Highway. For the purpose of constructing the road, a 51-member construction committee has been formed with Prithvi Subba central member of CPN, UML as the coordinator. The proposed road will be the shortest of all roads linking Kathamndu valley to the west. The preliminary survey of the road has been completed. — RSS
Potato cultivation popular
MYAGDI:
Farmers in Myagdi district have been attracted towards potato cultivation. Mainly the cultivation of RPS variety has become popular in the district, the district agriculture office said. The variety is resistant to ordinary diseases, yields 45 quintals per hectare on an average and needs small quantity of seeds compared to other varieties. Kuhu, Baranja, Ratnechaur, Jyamrukkot, Singa and peripheral VDCs of the district have been declared as pocket areas for potato cultivation. — RSS
Contract on plants signed
KATHMANDU:
Plant quarantine laboratories, set up at customs transits for the purpose of examining and determining quality of agro-products and industrial products are going to be updated with financial assistance of import promotion committee under the ministry of industry, commerce and supplies. An agreement to this regard was signed on Thursday by the ministry of industry, commerce and supplies and crop conservation directorate national plant quarantine programme. — RSS
