Kathmandu, May 23:
Senior Maoist leader CP Gajurel today said there would be no change in the present provision on head of the state and the head of the government until a new constitution is promulgated.
“There would be no ceremonial or any other type of president in Nepal until the new constitution is promulgated. Prachanda or somebody from our party will only take over the post that Girija Prasad Koirala is in charge of,” he said at a programme here.
The provision of a president with executive powers will be introduced only after the new constitution is promulgated.
The existing provision of the prime minister holding the responsibility of the head of the state and the head of the governement will continue even in the Maoist-led government, he said.
He said the Maoists were not against amending interim constitution, but it should be avoided as it may attract several suggestions thus derailing the constitution-making process.
“The proposal for constitution amendment is just like opening the Pandora’s Box. You will not be able to handle the situation or meet all demand. We suggested all parties not to press for changes until the nearest goal was achieved,” he said.
