Fr Watrin Basketball
KATHMANDU: Southsiders, Golden Gate, Himalayan White House, Times International and Supersonics entered the quarter-finals of the fifth Fr Watrin Men’s Basketball Tournament. Rishi Robertson netted 19 points as Southsiders thrashed Nepal Basketball Academy 106-59 in Group A. White House beat Kirtipur 85-59 riding on 36 points from Sadish Pradhan. The White House’s win also took Golden Gate to the last eight from Group B. In Group C, Times International beat Supesonics 78-54 with Wisdom Pandey netting 19 points for the winners. Komal Rai scored 23 for Supersonics, who advanced to the last eight despite the loss. — HNS
Lama, Karki pass
KATHMANDU: Taekwondo coaches Norbu Lama and Kumar Bahadur Karki have the Poomsae International Referee licence after passing the exams held during the eighth Poomsae International Referee Seminar in Bangkok in February. The duo, who became the first Nepali referees to get the licence, will now be able to officiate the Poomsae matches around the world. Lama and Karki had acquired the International Coaches’ licence from Korea in 2006. — HNS
Times Chess
KATHMANDU: The Times International College is organising the Times Chess Training and Tournament from June 12 in Kathmandu. The first two days will be training, while the four days will feature about 200 players from 100 schools in the competition, said the organisers at a press meet on Friday. The top 10 players will share the total prize money of Rs 20,000. Nepal champion Keshav Shrestha, Bhagawati Thapa, Krishna Thapa, Uttam Thapa and Monalisa Khambu will conduct the training. — HNS
CAN-XI beat Delhi-XI
KATHMANDU: CAN-XI beat Delhi-XI by two runs in a friendly series cricket match at the TU Stadium. Batting first, CAN-XI were bowled out for 123 runs in 34.2 overs and restricted the Delhi-XI to 121 runs in 33.3 overs. Sujin Adhikari and Suman Kaji Sthapit scored 23 runs each for the hosts. Raj Shrestha and Ram Shrestha contributed 15 and 11 respectively. Sanjay Pandey took 3-29 for Delhi. In reply, Sitendra Malik scored 47 off 44 balls, but failed to save his team from the loss. Man of the match Ram Pradhan took 4-18, while Sachin Bajrach-arya and Raj Shrestha claimed two wickets each for CAN-XI. On Friday, Yeti Airlines will play Delhi-XI. — HNS
