Kathmandu, June 13:
Taxi drivers today staged chakka jam for a few hours in Koteshwor, Satdobato and Anamnagar to protest the killing of taxi driver Ram Bahadur Thing.
Twenty-eight-year old Thing died in TU Teaching hospital, Maharajgunj yesterday. He was stabbed by three passengers in Chundevi.
Taxi drivers demanded immediate arrest of the killers and compensation to the victim’s family. “If situation remains the same, we would be compelled to take to the streets,” stated a press release issued by Nepal Meter Taxi Association.
Also today, transport workers demanded security for the transport workers. Issuing a joint press statement, the Nepal Transport Free Workers’ Organisation, Nepal Transport Workers’ Association and All Nepal Transport Workers’ Association warned that they would launch agitation if compensation were not provided to Thing’s family immediately.
Meanwhile, two taxis were vandalised in Koteshwor this morning, the release added. However, the vandals had not been identified.
