SCHOOL TIMES : Celebrating 56 years of scouting in Nepal

On June 19, the 56th years of Scouting in Nepal was observed in the presence of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, the patron of Nepal Scouts, and Education Minister Pradeep Nepal. The Chief Commissioner of Nepal, Sir Sri Ram Lamichane also graced the occasion. Smartly dressed scouts participated in Pioneering competition in which they built towers and bridges using bamboos and ropes.
On the occasion PM Koirala gave away badges and prizes to the winners and to individuals who have contributed to the development of scouting in Nepal. Many scout masters were also given certificates in recognition for their outstanding contribution to scouting.
Various other programmes were held including competitions among the District scout troops for several days. A speech competition was organised on ‘Role of Youth towards the Development of Scouting.’ The scouts expressed their thoughts and ideas on the topic with confidence.
The celebration ended with a grand campfire and a cultural programm demonstrating the spirit of scouting. It showed scouting has made us more capable and developed a sense of teamwork among us. Scouting has helped us become true humans by educating us through value-based systems.
Scouting is a worldwide movement, currently active in 216 countries and territories with a global membership of over 28 million. Scouting provides an excellent platform for youths towards character development and social service. It motivates youths and instils qualities that help make their life more fruitful. Nepal Scouts has been contributing a lot to society and the country as a whole.
