KATHMANDU: Gokul Tamang netted four goals as Hasopotala Ganesh Youth Club hammered Himchuli Youth Club 4-0 in the C Division League qualifying football match on Friday. In the other matches, Nawa Pravat Youth Club beat Tokha Youth Club 3-1 and Bhagwati Club defeated Naya Nagar Youth Club 1-0. — HNS

Int’l karate

KATHMANDU: Nepal won the team championship in the first International Karate Tournament held in Guwahati on June 28-29. Nepal earned 16 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals while runners up India claimed 10 gold, 12 silver and 16 bronze medals. In all 60 — 40 men and 20 women — Nepal Shito Ryu Karate players from Eastern Region took part in the event, said coach Bishan Mote who led the Nepali team to Guwahati. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Nepal Football Association is organising the Inter-secondary School National Football Tournament here from Sunday. In all 12 teams will compete for the championship. The association, which claims to be parallel to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), also made public its future programmes.— HNS

Apex beat Lab

KATHMANDU: Apex College defeated Lab College by eight wickets and National Campus beat Golden Gate by three wickets in the third CCRC Twenty20 Inter-college Cricket Tournament. Lab were bowled out for 58 in 17.2 overs and Apex overcame the total losing two wickets in the just 6.5 overs. Golden Gate dismissed for 83 runs in 18.4 overs and National Campus chased the total in 19.4 overs. — HNS

Paija in finals

LALITPUR: Chhabi Lal Paija made it to the finals of both men’s open and veterans’ section here at the first CG TV Squash Tournament on Friday. Paija beat Suresh Kumar Gurung 9-4, 9-6, 9-2 in the men’s open semi-final and dispatched Pramod Shrestha 9-4, 9-6, 9-5 in the veterans’ singles semi-final. Paija will meet Sudip Bahadur Singh in the veterans’ final. Also, Lokendra Man Singh Bhandari advanced to the Plate Championship final. — HNS

Table Tennis

KATHMANDU: A 14-member Table Tennis team is leaving for Karachi to take part in the South Asian Junior Championship slated for July 9-11. Nabita Shrestha, Elina Maharjan and Renuka Khatri will compete in the girls’ while Pradeep Rokka, Anish Shrestha and Sonu Gupta will play in the boys’ section. Participating in the cadet section are Sanisha Shrestha, Sushma Basnet, Bibek Shrestha and Biplav Adhikari. — HNS
