Biratnagar, July 13:
Chairman of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) Kamal Thapa said today that his party could work with the Maoists for the sake of the nation. Thapa said his party would launch a campaign to revive monarchy.
Speaking at a press conference in Biratnagar, Thapa said, “Though there are big theoretical and ideological differences between the RPP-N and the CPN-Maoist, we can go together to protect nationality.”
“Though the feeling of nationalism in the Maoists is weakening, we are close to the Maoists’ ideology of nationalism,” he said.
Refuting the allegation that the RPP-N is close to the CPN-Maoist, he said, “RPP-N respects people’s mandate. Our party maintains that the new government should be formed under the leadership of the Maoists because they have emerged as the largest party in the Constituent Assembly.”
Saying that it will be a ‘political dishonesty’ to deprive the Maoists of the chance to form the government, he blamed NC and UML for resorting to undemocratic acts to prevent the formation of government. Pointing at the revival of monarchy in Spain, Denmark and Britain, he said monarchy could be revived in Nepal too.
The decision to oust the king through the interim constitution is only an interim one and discussion on monarchy can go on until the promulgation of a new constitution, he said.
RPP-N maintains that the fate of the monarchy should be decided through a referendum, he said, adding that dethroning the king was a historical mistake.
He said that the parties should nominate independent and respected persons for the post of president and CA chairman.
