Lamjung, August 24:
With rains and floods in rural areas of Lamjung district damaging roads, passengers are facing hardships galore.
Since most of the roads are not blacktopped, villagers are forced to travel risking their lives. Of the 61 village development committees in Lamjung, only 40 VDCs are connected with road networks.
Passengers on Besisahar-Duradanda, Besisahar-Neta, Besisahar-Ghuseni, Besisahar-Bhorletar and other rural roads have been forced to take perilous journey, as rains and floods have damaged the roads in several places.
Vehicles have stayed off the damaged Gilung-Bhorletar road, locals said.
Roads linking Nalma, Bakhrejagat, Gaunsahar and Chisapani with Besisahar are not gravelled, villagers said.
According to locals, vehicles are also not plying on the muddy roads in Khudi, Bhulbhule, Baglungpani, Kapurgaun and Ghalegaun of the district.
Bhujung is a day’s walk from Besishar. The 25-kilometre Besisahar-Ghalegaun road has not been
gravelled yet.
“The road is muddy and narrow. We have to face risks while travelling through the road,” said a local in Bhujung, Dil Bahadur Gurung.
Similar is the experience of other villagers. “Despite
our village boasting of
transportation service, the road’s condition terrifies us,” said Meena Budathoki of Nalma village.
Drivers said they are also facing problems while driving through the muddy and narrow roads.
The roads are full of turning points and potholes with steep slopes, drivers said.
