Jhankri, Gharti in the fray for ANNFSU leadership

The election for the post of president of All-Nepal National Free Students’ Union and other positions was held here today. Ram Kumar Jhankri and Gokul Gharti are in the fray for the post of president.
Jhankri and Gharti decided to fight it out through the election after efforts to select the president and other office-bearers on the basis of consensus failed. The 19th national convention of the ANNFSU concludes with the election of ANNFSU office-bearers. The agreement to go for the election was made at 3 pm. The election began at 8:30 pm and ended at 10 pm.
Shivaji Gurung of the ANNFSU said attempts to select president and other office-bearers on the basis of consensus did not pay off.
Voters were divided into factions led by Jhankri and Gharti. After filing their candidacies, Jhankri and Gharti organised separate rallies around Sabhagriha Hall, asking voters to elect them.
A total of 2,361 students are participating in the
convention. Purushottam Acharya and Soviet Dhakal are in the fray for the post of vice-president, while Madhav Dhungel and Upendra Poudel are eyeing the post of general secretary.
Kishor Bikram Malla and Rupesh Khatiwoda are battling it out for the post of secretary. Ratna Khatri and Nar Bahadur Dhami are vying for the post of treasurer. A total of 200 students are vying for other positions in the students’ organisation.
