HSC reward players

KATHMANDU: Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) rewarded the players and officials who guided the team to ‘A’ Division. Established three years ago, the HSC finished second in the recently-concluded Martyrs Memorial ‘B’ Division League under the captaincy of Kamal Bista. Siddhi Byanjankar and Sunil Subedi were the coaches of the team. CA Member Jeep Tshering Sherpa and HSC President Karma Tshering Sherpa handed over Rs 4,000 and certificate each to the 25 players and coaches. The HSC won the ‘C’ Division league last year. — HNS

Federer pulls out

STOCKHOLM: World No 2 Roger Federer will take a break but hopes to return before the end of the year, he told organisers of the Stockholm Open as he announced his withdrawal from next week’s tournament. Federer said in a statement to organisers that “2008 has been a tough year for me as I was always playing catch up after being diagnosed with mononucleosis at the beginning of the year.” Roger Federer won his 13th Grand Slam crown and fifth consecutive US Open title last month. — AFP
