Spate of mishaps claims seven lives

Pokhara/Bhairahawa, Oct 4:

Seven persons died in seven mishaps in the last 24 hours.

A Dutch national, Peter Ruff, fell to death from Dhungesanghu in Pokhara-17.

According to the police, Ruff, 51, fell while he was taking photos and landed in a gorge of the Seti river.

The Kaski District Police Office said Peter’s body had been taken out from the gorge and taken to the Pokhara-based Western Regional Hospital for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Man Bahadur Adhikary (60), a resident of Pokhara’s Chhinedanda, who was injured when a microbus hit him on the Prithvi Highway in Chauthe today, died in the

Western Regional Hospital, the police said. Adhikary was associated with a UML-affiliated workers’ union.

In another incident, motorcyclist Santosh Gurung (30) of Pokhara- 16 died when the motorcycle he was driving met with an accident in Pokhara’s Sabhagriha Chock last night, the police said. Gurung died at 11: 50 pm while he was undergoing treatment in the Western Regional Hospital Pokhara.

Motorcyclist Santosh Thapa (22) and Raju Thapa (20) of Butwal’s Sukhhanagar died when a Butwal-bound microbus collided with their motorcycle in Padasari along the Siddhartha highway today, the District Police Office said. The police have arrested the bus driver.

In another incident, one motorcyclist died and the pillion-rider was injured when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a truck in Kanakot of Dhading district today. The pillion-rider has been taken to Kathmandu for treatment. The police said they were searching for the driver.

According to a report from Nawalparasi, Laxmi Kunwar (21) of Pandrang VDC-6, Parbat district, died when a bus heading to Dang from Kathmandu hit a truck parked in Bhedabari along the East-West Highway last night. Eighteen passengers were injured in the accident.
