Three girls drown

BIRATNAGAR: Three girls drowned in a pond in Janapath Tole of Biratnagar-15 on Saturday. The Morang District Police identified the deceased as 15-year-old Amita Rai, the daughter of Sher Bahadur Rai; 13-year-old Kalpana Basnet, the daughter of Govinda Basnet; and Sita Karki’s 13-year-old daughter Anu Karki. They suddenly fell into the pond and drowned while they were playing, the police said. All of them died while undergoing treatment in the Biratnagar-based Koshi Zonal Hospital, the police added. — HNS

Six hurt in mishap

TANAHUN: Six passengers were injured when a bus heading to Pokhara from Kathmandu met with an accident at Lower Dumre in Bandipur Village Development Committee-4 along the Prithvi Highway on Friday night. Five injured have been taken to a Pokhara hospital for treatment, while one has returned home after getting minor treatment in a local hospital, the Tanahun District Police Office said. — HNS

Robber killed

DHADING: A man who tried to rob tourists by flaunting a pistol was killed in Lapa VDC of Dhading on Friday after locals and tourists thrashed him in retaliation. Twenty-six-year-old Malangre Tamang was killed when locals and eight tourists attacked him, the Dhading District Police Office said. Th e locals also seized Tamang’s pistol, the police said. Malangre was also involved in similar incidents in the past, a local, Ramsingh Tamang, said. — HNS

Radio Rolpa on air

ROLPA: Radio Rolpa started its regular transmission from Saturday. It will broadcast its programmes from 5:40 to 9 in the morning and 5 to 9 in the evening, station manager Ghanashyam Acharya said. The station began its test transmission on July 24. The radio is operated by Human Rights Consciousness Centre, an organisation working for social justice and human rights, Acharya added. — HNS
