ITAHARI: Sunsari district chapter of Women Support Group in association with Jagriti Women Association, Kathmandu, organised a day-long interaction on violence against women here on Wednesday. Speakers at the programme blamed that the state was showing indifference to the increasing cases of violence against women. Programme coordinator of Jagriti Women Association Ranju Rijal said housewives and sex workers were prone to different kinds of violence. “We recently organised a porgramme in support of sex workers in Ratnapark, Kathmandu,” she said, adding that cadres of Young Communisty League, police and the state have been troubling women. Human right activists Ram Koirala and Sukdev Chaudhary and social worker Pushpa Bhattarai also spoke on the occasion. — HNS
Three hurt in blast
BARA: Three members of a family were injured when a bomb went off in their house here on Wednesday. Dulariya Devi (40), her daughter Manturan Kumari (14) and her grandson Sunil Patel (8) were injured when a stray bomb went off when the children were playing with it, the Bara District Police Office said. The injured have been taken to Narayani sub-regional hospital for treatment, the Kalaiya District Hospital said. Meanwhile, a woman sustained injuries when a tempo met with an accident at Eleven Kilo along the East-West Highway on Wednesday. Krishna Maya Pulami (40) of Piluwa of Dumarwana VDC was injured, police said, adding, the injured has been undergoing treatment in Birgunj based Narayani sub-regional hospital. — HNS
