Puja, Sara Devi set championship clash

Kathmandu, November 18:

Puja Shrestha of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) and Sara Devi Tamang of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) advanced to the women’s final at the fifth Nationwide Krishna Mohan Memorial Open Badminton Championships here today.

Shrestha edged out fellow clubmate Sujana Shrestha 21-8, 14-21, 21-16 while Tamang eased to a comfortable 21-11, 21-10 victory over Sushmita Gurung of APF.

The pair of Puja and Sujana along with Bina Tulachan and Sara Devi also made it to the final of the women’s doubles section. Puja/ Sujana beat Nangsal Devi Tamang and Mina Shrestha 21-18, 21-11 while Bina and Sara Devi defeated Mina Lama and Gyanu Limbu in the semi-finals.

Anil Lakhe, Sajan Krishna Tamrakar, Pankaj Chand, Prajwol Jung Rana, Indra Mahata, Raju Paneru, Nawaraj Joshi, Sahadev Khadka, Bikash Shrestha, Ratnajit Tamang, Ram Singh Chaudhary, Vivek Shrestha, Basanta Bajracharya, Surya Thapa, Bishal Pradhan and Rajan Siwakoti won their respective men’s singles matches.

Advancing to the veterans doubles quarter-finals were Milan Rajbhandari/Jayaram Hamal, Puspadan Shakya/Tulasi Subedi, Ram Maharjan/Naresh Tamrakar, and Suresh Chandra Shrestha/Ganesh Thapa.

Entering the third round in the Boys’ U-19 section include Rajendra Paneru, B Lal Waris, Sahadev Khadka, Bhugol Gurung, Vivek Shrestha, Sudip Sedhai, Dipesh Dhami, Mohammed Irfan Ansari, Vivek GC, Ratnajit Tamang, Rabi Shrestha, Riyajudin Riyajdani, Susan Shrestha, Sujan Krishna Tamrakar, Purna Bahadur Thapa and Akash Ghale.

The pair of Pankaj Chand/Rajiv Dahal and Bikash Shrestha/Nawaraj Joshi also won their men’s doubles matches.
