Dang, November 26:
Freed Kamaiyas in the district have threatened to launch an agitation if they did not feel a sense of freedom.
They organised a rally yesterday in Ghorahi, asking the government to rehabilitate them. They also said that they would stage a phase-wise agitation from November 30 if their demands were not met. The rally started from the office of Freed Kamaiya Society and went through Tulsipurchowk, Land Reforms Office and District Administration Office before converging into a cornet meet.
“Though we were emancipated some seven years ago, we are yet to feel freedom in a true sense. We have been forced to stage an agitation to draw the government’s attention towards our plight,” the freed Kamaiyas said.
Participants of the rally asked the government to register land in their names, ascertain actual number of freed Kamaiyas, provide them with ID cards and form a land commission.
