Mahendranagar, December 7:
Former Prime Minister and NC president Girija Prasad Koirala today said the government had failed on all fronts and will fall on its own.
Speaking at a press meet organised by the Kanchanpur chapter of Nepal Press Union here, he said, “The government will topple on its own, as the CPN-Maoist is against peace and stability.”
Koirala, who is here to boost the NC’s national awareness campaign, said the government was not giving due priority to the task of drafting the new constitution.
“I have no objection if the PLA integration took place following proper procedure. However, I am against group-wise integration,” he said.
On constitution, he said, “The constitution will be drafted. If others did not take an initiative for drafting the new constitution, NC will lead the constitution-drafting task.”
When asked about NC’s view on federalism, he said, “We have to develop our own model of federalism without affecting national integrity. Concerns of the people of Tarai, hills and mountains must be addressed,” he said.
Saying that law and order has been deteriorating, Koirala said provision of two separate committees — one for maintaining peace and stability and another for army management — should be formed. When asked about Defence Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa’s remark of carrying out PLA integration even in NC’s absence, he said, “If anyone wants to integrate the PLA in NC’s absence, could we prevent the person to carry out the task?”
Claiming that he had always been for an independent press, he said, “I respect press freedom and cannot tolerate attack on free press.” The Kailali chapter of FNJ had handed over a memorandum to Koirala regarding the killing of local journalist JP Joshi.
