Lama clinches trophy

KATHMANDU: Rajan Lama of Sankata Savings and Credit Cooperative clinched the Sankata Inter-cooperative Snooker Championship on Saturday. Played in best-of-eleven format, Lama rallied from two frames down to beat Niraj Thapa of Cooperative Credit Fund 52-54, 41-64, 78-20, 38-61, 79-51, 15-93, 68-42, 81-35, 73-27, 55-56, 97-20. Lama won Rs 50,000 while runner up Thapa earned Rs 30,000. Champion Lama also received an additional Rs 10,000 set aside for the highest breaker. Lama had set a 96-point breaking record on Wednesday. Losing semi-finalists Saroj Mulmi and Sakchham Shrestha also got Rs 20,000 each. Lopsang Tenzing was adjudged the best player and received Rs 5,000. In all, 73 players took part in the event. — HNS

Loyalty Cup football

KATHMANDU: Loyalty Academy is organising the third Loyalty Cup Valleywide Inter-school Seven-A-Side Junior Football here from February 7. More than 20 teams will fight the championship, said the organisers here on Saturday. Best players, goalkeeper, highest goal scorer and a disciplined team will also be awarded, said the organisers. — HNS

Gyan basketball

KATHMANDU: Gyan Niketan is organising the eighth Gyan Niketan Basketball Cup here from February 2. In all, 16 teams in boys, eight in girls and 10 in junior boys’ sections will vie for the championships, said the organisers here on Saturday. Wilson Academy and Teresa Academy are the defending champions in the boys and girls’ section respectively. The school is giving continuity to the junior boys’ event after two years. — HNS
