BHAKTAPUR:The locals, members of security forces and members of Guthi Sansthan-Bhaktapur today pulled down the lingo -- a wooden pole about 50-60 feet in length and two feet wide -- of Bisket Jatra at Bhelukhel in Bhaktapur. Every year, the lingo is pulled down on the first day of New Year. During the rituals, Deepak Thapa from Jhapa was seriously injured while trying to climb the lingo, while a few others sustained minor injuries. Thapa is undergoing treatment in Bhaktapur Hospital. Legend holds that a serpent had bitten a prince in the ancient times. Pulling down the lingo represents killing of the serpent and bringing prosperity to the town. After pulling down the lingo at Bhelukhel, the chariot of Bhairab and Bhadrakali was pulled to Gahati in Bhaktapur. The chariot will be taken to different parts of the city from tomorrow. The festivities end after the chariots are taken to Taumadi, the place where the rituals began.
