KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today directed the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation to deploy liaison officers to accompany mountaineering expeditions till the base camps of the concerned peaks and not to submit their reports by making them in Kathmandu. The constitutional anti-corruption watchdog issued the directive, acting on the complaints that the liaison officers do not go to the field and prepare their report from Kathmandu. “The liaison officers are taking fee from expeditions but are not accompanying them to the field. Such acts have been tarnishing the image of the country in international arena,” the CIAA sated. The anti-graft body also said that the Tourism Act 1997 and Mountaineering Regulations 2002 had clearly stated that the liaison officers need to go up to the base camp. It also asked the ministry to stop such irregularities and seriously implement the legal provision.
