Special traffic drive proves to be a success

KATHMANDU: The valley has witnessed a steady decline in traffic offenses following the special campaign organised by Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD). A team of traffic officials seized 715 licenses, 453 blue books and 229 route permits on Saturday on the charges of violating traffic rules. Similarly, 21 vehicles with fake number plates, 26 vehicles boarding their passengers on the roof-tops and overwhelming 276 public vehicles were caught with their doors open and passengers hanging on it. On last Sunday a taxi heading towards Police Academy near Narayan Gopal Chowk met with an accident when it crashed on the nearby wall due to over- speeding. The driver, Raju Shrestha, 23 of Basundhara sustained minor injuries while two passengers Nabin Bhattarai, 25 and Diya Karki, 22 of Baneshwor and Dakshin Dhoka respectively sustained serious injuries on their heads. They were rushed to Teaching hospital for treatment. It was later discovered that the driver was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
