Prime enter quarters KATHMANDU: Prime Sports Club defeated KNK College 61-59 to enter the quarter-finals of the Sprite Basketball Bash 2009 Inter-college Tournament on Monday. Sadish Pradhan and Rajeev Joshi scored 18 points each for Prime. Also, Golden Gate beat White House (Khumaltar) 68-49 riding on Sanjaya Byanjanka’s 16 points. Binod Maharjan scored 21 for White House. In women’s match, Samriddhi Rai scored 12 as Golden Gate thrashed KCM 45-13. — THT Online
Robin, Sajani win BHAKTAPUR: Robin Thapa of SOS and Sajani Pradhananga of Birendra Sainik Awasiya Mahavidhyalaya won the boys’ and girls’ 100m race in the first President’s Running Shield Inter-school Tournament on Monday. Robin cross the finish line in 12.58 seconds and Sajani completed the course in 14.49sec. Other winners included Sudip Gurung of Birendra Sainik and Sumitra Koju of Sarada School in 400m, and Surendra Gwachha of Adarsha Higher Secondary School in 5,000m. Birendra Sainik claimed the boys’ 4X100 metre relay while SOS won the girls’ 4X100 metre race. In football, Birendra Sainik crushed Mahendra Vidhyashram 7-0. —THT Online
Drogba’s case delayed GENEVA: UEFA said on Monday that Chelsea striker Didier Drogba might have to wait weeks for a disciplinary decision following his outburst during the club’s Champions League tie against Barcelona. A UEFA spokesman said that Drogba’s case was likely to be reviewed by a regular meeting of UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary body. Drogba faces potentially severe sanctions over his confrontation with Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovreba. — AFP
Gasquet suspended PARIS: French tennis star Richard Gasquet, who tested positive for cocaine during the Miami Masters in March, was provisionally suspended on Monday, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) said. “His provisional suspension begins today,” said Dr Stuart Miller, the head of the ITF’s anti-doping commission. The player, who intends to prove his innocence, will now appear before an ITF anti-doping tribunal. — AFP
