KATHMANDU: More than 50 per cent private schools across the country have refused to submit their fee structures to the government. The government had formed four teams comprising representatives of the government, private schools' umbrella organization, guardians associations, teachers associations and districts education offices to inspect fee structures in private schools through out the country. While two teams were deployed in the capital, others were deployed in Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Chitwan, Rupandehi, Kaski and other districts. The report prepared by the team deployed outside the valley said the private schools fleeced the students of exorbitant fees, while exploited teachers and other staffs. Suprabhat Bhandari, president of Guardians' Association Nepal and a member of the government's team said the schools didn't bother to submit their free structures and comply with the government directive. Talking to The Himalayan Times today, he said, “Except the registration of SLC students in District Education Office (DEO), the private schools are not coordinating with the DEO.” He said private schools in Chitwan, Nawalparasi and Tanahau had the largest number of such schools, adding that none of the schools in Tanahau had submitted the fee proposal to DEO. Accusing the schools of prescribing unnecessary textbooks, he said, “The guardians complained that schools prescribed unnecessary textbooks to make more money.”
