KATHMANDU: Lawmakers of almost all the political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly are leaving for Dang tomorrow to inspect whether or not the Nepali territory has been encroached upon and the people living near the border have been displaced by the Indian Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB). Amik Sherchan, chairman of the CA Committee to Protect National Interests, will lead the team. According to Sherchan, lawmakers of 18 political parties, including the UCPN-Maoist, CPN-UML and Nepali Congress, and experts would make a field visit to Koilabas in Dang and 21 other border points. He said the team would hold interaction with local people, representatives of political parties and government officials. The team will then submit a report to the government and suggest measures to protect border and ensure the security of the people. “We will come up with our views only after visiting the disputed areas. We do not know on what ground the Defence Minister and Home Secretary maintained that there has been no border encroachment,” Sherchan said at the end of the all-party meeting.
