HETAUDA: Relatives of a youth who was brought to Hetauda Hospital after he reportedly died of an electric shock on Saturday roughed up doctors and hospital staffers. They accused the hospital staffers of carelessness. As the irate relatives started to vandalise the hospital and thrash health workers, patients ran pell-mell out of the hospital. Following the incident, the hospital development committee halted all the services, including the emergency, in the evening. Twenty-two-year-old Janak Balami of Hatiya Chisapani Newartol was killed when high-voltage electricity was transmitted in the 11 KVA line from NEA’s Chaughada feeder. Balami was declared dead the instant he was brought to the hospital. The furious youths claimed that Balami was alive even some time after he was declared dead. Saroj Kumar Khanal, president of the Hospital Development Committee, was also manhandled. According to the villagers, Megha Prasad Sapkota, Chamuna Balami, Rekha Khati, Muna Pudasaini, Shiva Khadka and 20 others were also hit by the short circuit. Some of them are undergoing treatment in Hatiya Health Post. A team of police had reached the hospital after Khanal was beaten. The locals said electrical appliances in 200 houses were damaged in the short circuit.
