KALIKOT: Cadres of Young Communist League, a sister organisation of UCPN (Maoist), torched the party office of CPN (UML) and thrashed more than 25 cadres of CPN (UML) in Manma today for defying the bandh called by Bheri-Karnali Mukti Morcha. Those beaten up included district secretary of CPN (UML) Kurmaraj Shahi, secretariat member Bharat Dhital, coordinator of Youth Force Dhruba Bahadur Shahi. He and others were sitting in their party office. CPN(UML) office secretary Chitrasing Gaule, district committee member Man Bahadur Malla, Til Bahadur Shahi, Hansa Bahadur Malla, chairman of president of All Nepal Union Bina Shahi were thrashed while they were at their home. The condition of Durga Shahi is reported to be critical. The local administration has clamped curfew in the district headquarter from 8 pm today to 5 am tomorrow. Rana Bahadur Rayamajhi, DSP at Kalikot said more than 25 cadres of CPN (UML) and some cops were injured in the incident. He added that cops fired tear gas shells and blank shots to control the mob. Office secretary of CPN(UML) Chitrasingh Gaule said, “The Maoist cadres are venting out their frustration on UML after their government was toppled.” Meanwhile, government offices and education institutions remained closed in Dailekh today. Market place was also shut. Maoists forced the closure of the government offices. The Maoists warned the CDO against doing any official work before padlocking him in the office. Government and non-governmental organisations also remained shut in Surkhet today. The agitators vandalised the office of Bageswori Development Bank for defying the bandh. The bank was shut after the attack, manager Badri Prasad Sharma said. Long and short route vehicles did not ply in the district today. Air service was also affected. Life in 10 districts of Bheri and Karnali zones was affected due to the bandh today.
