Civilian supremacy must: Prachanda

DAMAN: Former Prime Minister and Unified CPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Sunday called on the nationalist leaders to unite for the cause of establishing civilian supremacy. Prachanda, who arrived in Palung to attend a programme, stated that it was a mockery of democracy to have a person who lost the elections as the Prime Minister of the country. “We are planning to launch an urban uprising,” he said, adding that it was time to launch the third movement to safeguard democracy that was in peril. Claiming that military supremacy had prevailed over democratic principles, he also accused the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML of delaying the constitution writing process. “The UCPN-Maoist will accomplish the task of bringing the peace process to a logical end and writing the new constitution at any rate,” he said. He also accused other parties of trying to provoke the Maoist combatants to move out of the camps and wage a war. “If this happens, it will be a great misfortune for the Nepalis and the nation,” he said. “I am still the Prime Minister of the people,” Prachanda said, adding, “I was not in the minority, but I joined the people as I did not want to bow before foreign lords and Nepali brokers,” he said. There was no alternative to national government to maintain lasting peace in the country, he maintained. “All nationalists and leftists should be united for the cause,” he said. Maoist leaders Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Mohan Baidhya, Lilamani Pokhrel and Agni Sapkota had also accompanied Prachanda.
