Local bodies shut to mourn staffers’ death

BIRATNAGAR: All local bodies in Morang, including the District Development Committee (DDC), remained shut today to mourn the death of two government employees who were killed in a road mishap last night. Ram Gopal Gadtaula (53), sub-engineer at the Morang DDC, and pillion rider Shankar Dahal (40), secretary of Dulari Village Development Committee, were killed when their motorbike collided with an ambulance and a truck last night. “We decided to close all local bodies in the district to mourn the death of our colleagues,” Mahendra Khadka, programme officer at the Morang District Development Committee, said. Service seekers from different parts of the district had to suffer inconvenience due to the closure of Morang DDC, Biratnagar sub-metropolis and other VDCs without prior notice. Ambulance driver Baban Rai, truck driver Man Bahadur Budhathoki, Babita Chaudhari, Kaluram Chaudhari, Puspa Chaudhari, Radha Chaudari, Sushila Chaudhari, Mani Lal Chaudhari and Santosh Shah, a policeman, were injured in the accident. The injured are undergoing treatment in Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Koshi zonal hospital, Regional Police Office, Biratnagar, said.
