ICAPP backs peace process

KATHMANDU: The high-level delegation of International Conference of Asian Political Parties has expressed solidarity to the efforts of the present government to strengthen Nepal’s democratic process. The delegation led by ICAPP Chairman Jose de Venecia visited Nepal this week. During the stay in Nepal, the delegation met President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala, top party leaders and high-ranking officials. The delegation, representing 240 political parties of Asia, from Tongo to Turkey and Palau to Pakistan, saluted the determination and resilience of the people and democratic forces of Nepal to launch a successful struggle for the restoration of democracy and the supremacy of the people. Organising a press conference at the end of the visit, ICAPP chairman Jose de Venecia said, “We are ready to support the peace process and constitution drafting.” According to chairman Venecia, the delegates urged the leaders to eschew narrow, factional and partisan motives and hold high the interest of Nepal and its people. The delegation also invited the Nepali leaders to address the 5th ICAPP conference in Kazakhstan in September. A statement released by the delegation at the end of the visit read, “While the political leaders in Nepal need to be more engaged with each other to support peace building, recovery from long-lasting social and political instability and long-term economic development.”
