PHIDIM: Women across the country on Sunday celebrated their Teej in color and wished good health and longivity of life for their beloved ones. But there was a group of women who celebrated the day by sorrounding police post and organizing protest . Women of Ektin VDC in Panchthar on Sunday flexed their musscles and agitated against the local government. They suprised everyone by surrounding the District Police Office, government lawyer’s office, District Administration Office and district court on Sunday. When asked, why they were agitating instead of celebrating the Teej, they charged that the government was hiding criminals who they said were accused of killing Tilarupa Kafle, 19, of Ektin VDC 9. The women accused that the hospital, police and government lawyers tried to save the deceased’s husband Dhana Kumar Kalfe and her father-in-law Tek Bahadur from legal charges. Tilarupa was allegedly murdered on July 8 by her husband and her father-in-law. According to Niruta Lingden, president of Ektin VDC based Paralegal Committee, the duo had thrashed her to death and later hung her body in a nearby jungle to escape from being arrested. The duo has been arrested when the eyewitnesses jointly lodged a complaint to the authority. From its field report, police had discovered wounds and blood stains from Tilarupa’s body. “However, the district hospital, district police and government lawyers have been lured by pecuniary profit and have twisted the autopsy report,” the local resident women blamed. The women have also demanded action against Dr Surendra Chaudhary for he allegedly prepared fake report of the autopsy. Situation was tense as the women clashed with police. Meanwhile, the accused were brought in the court and a trial proceeding has begun.
