LALITPUR: Eastern Region and Central Region won their respective matches on the inaugural day of the first National Volleyball Men’s and Women’s League Championships here today. In the men’s preliminary league, Eastern Region laboured to a 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18 win over Far Western Region. Central Region had even tough time beating Mid Western 25-5, 25-13, 20-25, 21-25, 15-6 in a five-set thriller. Likewise, Employment Creation Service (ECS) Club defeated Jawalakhel Volleyball Club in straight sets 25-20, 27-25, 25-23 held at the Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre. Top two teams from the preliminary league will join Tribhuvan Army Club, Nepal Police Club (NPC), Nepal Armed Police Force Club and Ex-Bagar of Pokhara in the Super League. Meanwhile, in women’s section, NPC edged past Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) Club 25-6, 25-19, 25-12. Earlier, PLA saw off Far Western 25-12, 25-10, 25-17. Far Western later managed to produce a 27-25, 22-25, 19-25, 30-28, 15-4 triumph over Mid Western Region. In another match, Western Region cruised past Mid Western Region in straight sets 25-6, 25-4, 25-3.
