Mali announces award KATHMANDU: Managing Director of Mali Travels & Tours Nilendra Mali announced a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for the winner of the Pulsar Popular Player of the Year on Tuesday. Mali had also presented the same amount to footballer Ju Manu Rai — last year’s winner of the category. The cash award will be a bonus for the winner, who is set to get Rs 25,000, a Samsung camera and gift hampers from the organisers Nepal Sports Journalists Forum at an award function on Thursday. The winner will be decided through SMS voting. — HNS PLA beat Eastern Region KATHMANDU: People Liberation Army (PLA) Club beat Eastern Region 25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 25-17 in the National Men’s Volleyball League Championship here on Tuesday. PLA Club also got walkover win from Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre (JVTC). In another match, Employment Creation Services overcame Central Region 31-29, 25-14, 25-16 before seeing off Far Western 25-9, 25-18, 25-18. Likewise, Mid Western dispatched Far Western 25-18, 25-23, 25-20 and JVTC defeated Mid Western 25-20, 25-19, 25-19. — HNS NNIPA appeals for help KATHMANDU: Nepal National and International Players’ Association (NNIPA) on Tuesday appealed Minster for Youth and Sports Ganesh Nepali to help save the life of former national taekwondo player Manju Tuladhar. Minister Nepali assured NNIPA president Deepak Bista that his ministry would help the player as they did for the treatment of former volleyball player Dinesh Baniya. Like Baniya, Tuladhar needs kidney transplantation. — HNS Gyanu claims gold medal KATHMANDU: Gyanu Adhikari of Ratna Rajya (RR) Campus won the women’s 50kg gold medal during the first Shito-Ryu Karate Tournament on Tuesday. Gyanu beat Sarita Shrestha of Saraswoti Campus in final. Entering the men’s 50kg final were Rabindra Karki of RR and Dhan Bahadur Rai of Budhanilkantha. Likewise, Saru Pariyar of Shanti Niketan and Nirmala Tamang of Saraswoti set championship date in the women’s 40kg. — HNS Sanjeev, Sharada win KATHMANDU: Sanjeev Khadka of Birendra Sainik Awashiya Mahavidhyalaya and Sharada Bhandari of Bijeshwori Gyan Mandir won the Valleywide Inter-school Road Race on Tuesday. Sanjeev won the five-km boys’ race in 18 minutes, 12.6 seconds while Sharada claimed the three-km girls’ race in 14:54.10. Top three athletes in both the sections got Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. In all, 110 students participated in the race organised by the Education Ministry. — HNS Bern Hardt in quarters KATHMANDU: Hosts Bern Hardt entered the quarter-finals of the first Bern Hardt Inter-college Boys Basketball Tournament with a 27-21 win over Unique College here on Tuesday. Bern Hardt will next play Golden Gate ‘A’, who overcame VS Niketan 56-42. Also making it to the quarter-finals were Golden Gate ‘B’ and Prime College. Golden Gate ‘B’ beat Himalayan White House 39-32 and Prime hammered Ullens 72-19. Golden Gate ‘B’ will take on Ace, Prime will meet National College, and Xavier International will face Little Angels in other quarter-final matches. — HNS
