KATHMANDU: Subodh Thapa won the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal golf tournament with the score of net 70 here at the Gokarna Golf Club today. The 20-handicap player finished the front nine at 46 and added 44 on the back to return the card of 90. Joseph Nathan and Greesh Bindra accumulated 74 net scores but Nathan came second on count back. Nathan, a 16-handicap player, played a round of 49 on the front nine and 41 on the back, while Bindra, playing with a handicap allowance of nine, scored 41 and 42 respectively. Wang Yi (75) and AT Sherpa (78) completed the top five in the fifth event under the 2009 season. A total of 15 players took part in the event on Monday. Senior golfer Eu Hazur Thapa awarded the winners. With three events remaining in the sason, Wangchen Dhondup leads the standing with 192 points, while last year’s runner up Nathan jumped to second with 190 points. AT Sherpa is the defending champion.
