KATHMANDU: World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Nepal has honoured an organisation and four individuals with the Abraham Conservation Award 2009 for their time in the field of conservation. The individual recipients are Sonam Gyalzen Sherpa, Ramesh Bahadur Chand, Gokarna Devkota and Yubaraj Pokharel. Ghunsa Snow Leopard Conservation Sub-Committee in Taplejung was also conferred the award. Hari Adhikari and Dipti Khakurel were honoured with Matthew Preece and Yeshi Lama Young Conservation Leader Award. Similarly, WWF Media in Conservation Award was given to journalist Abdullah Miya. Sherpa was honoured for his role in making the Sagarmatha area bottle-free zone. Chand is a DFO in Darchula district. Devkota heads the Nepali Army counter poaching cell in Chitwan National Park. Journalist Miya is disseminating information on conservation related issues for the last eight years while Yubaraj Pokharel is working in tree improvement and tree domestication programme.
