Journos’ succour to kin of Dharan church victims

DHARAN: In a bid to heal the wound of families of the victims of the Dharan church tragedy, various journalists’ bodies provided a financial support to the families. Sunsari chapter of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) - an umbrella organisation of working journalists in the country, Bijayapur FM and the Blast Times daily jointly provided Rs 50,000 to kin of the deceased amid a programme here today. Altogether 23 persons had lost their lives when a makeshift structure of bamboo collapsed in Ziopn Church in Dharan-19 on Tuesday night. FNJ Sunsari chairman Rajesh Bidrohi, chairman of Bijayapur FM Durpadhoj Rai and chief editor of the Blast Times Raj Kumar Karki jointly handed over the cash to the chairman of Zion Church Yam Bahadur Limbu. The cash would be distributed to the kin of the deceased by the church. Meanwhile, different organisations here in Sunsari expressed dissatisfaction over the probe committee formed by the government. Speaking at a programme organised by Zion Church today, the speakers condemned the government’s apathetic attitude to probe into the incident. Bidrohi said that the government should have rather worked at providing compensation to the kin of the deceased. Various speakers emphasised that there should be involvement of civil society, media persons and other stakeholders in the probe committee.
