KATHMANDU: Vice-chairman of Unified CPN-Maoist Dr Baburam Bhattarai has moved the Kathmandu District Court (KDC) seeking protection of his dignity. Dr Bhattarai moved the KDC over an article published in Tarun Weekly. Dr Bhattarai alleged that the weekly had defamed him. Dr Bhattarai has sought for maximum sentence to the defendants as per the Defamation Act 1959. Dr Bhattarai has also urged the court to protect his dignity. Earlier, the weekly had published an article that charged him of being an agent of Research and Analysis Wing of the Indian government. The article by Dirgha Raj Prashain had also charged him of working against national interest and serving Indian interest in a bid to become the next prime minister of Nepal. Responding to the lawsuit, KDC has summoned the defendants; Tarun publication, publisher Parshu Ghimire, Editor Bindukanta Ghimire, managing director SB Khadka, Annapurna Printing Press and the author Dirgha Raj Prashain. “We have issued summons to the defendants and the case would proceed further,” Mahendra Nath Upadhyaya, Registrar at the KDC told The Himalayan Times today.
