MYAGDI: A person claiming to be a UN staffer has cheated thousands of rupees from locals of Dagnam in Myagdi district by promising them solar plants. Yam Bahadur Baral cheated locals by giving them fake assurances of providing solar energy panels to households affected by the Raghughat Hydroelectricity Project, according to Janata Lower Secondary School principal Yagya Dutt Acharya. Baral, whose real name has not been confirmed, collected Rs 1,000 each from 50 households in Dagnam, saying that the UN would provide them solar panels. A local, Ek Narayan Pun, said they handed the amount after the man identified himself as a UN staffer. “Now the entire community feels cheated,” he said.
